Dear KIPP Texas Families,
Happy 2021!!! I hope you and your KIPPsters had some time to reflect, rest, and renew over break in a way that brought you joy. I also hope that you and your families are healthy. Today, we welcomed KIPPsters back into our virtual classrooms and schools for in-person learning. What a beautiful sight to see our KIPPsters learning and being together as a Team & Family.
As we start the year, I am very optimistic for 2021. I am looking forward to the days ahead because we are living in a historic and important time in our country. Regardless of who you voted for or support, this election saw the highest voter turnout in 120 years! In a few short weeks, glass ceilings for women will shatter further as our country’s first female, Black, South-Asian American Vice President-Elect of the United States, Kamala Harris, will be sworn into office, and just yesterday, the state of Georgia elected their first Black senator. We have also seen so many people around the country, including our own Little and Big KIPPsters, making their voices heard, fighting for racial justice and a more just world. And while we celebrate these wins, we also acknowledge that there is still so much work to do to create a more just world, as we continue to witness police brutality and racism across our country.
At KIPP, as a Team & Family, we will continue working with optimism, hope, and persistence towards a day when every child grows up free to create the future they want for themselves and their communities. As we enter 2021 and we continue our commitment to be an anti-racist organization, we will double down on our promise to create equitable, joyful, academically excellent schools that prepare our KIPPsters with the skills and confidence to elevate their voices, advocate for justice, and fight for a world in which there are no glass ceilings left to shatter.
As we move forward towards that bright future, we recognize that there are still challenges ahead. While a COVID-19 vaccine will be available in the coming weeks and months to the public, we are still facing rising numbers of COVID cases in Texas and around the world. We will remain committed to our health and safety practices – wearing face coverings, social distancing whenever possible, washing and sanitizing our hands, contact tracing, cleaning and disinfecting our buildings, and caring for Little and Big KIPPsters and their families. We are also aware that there is the possibility of some civil unrest related to election results and the transition of our country’s leadership. Within our walls, we will do everything we can to ensure our KIPPsters are safe, healthy, learning, and loved through this season, and we will continue to monitor what is going on outside of our campuses and make decisions accordingly.

If your child is sick or showing any COVID-19 symptoms listed in the Daily Health Self Assessment Checklist, they must stay home and fail the wellness survey.
If your child, anyone in your household, or a close contact tests positive for COVID, please notify your child’s school immediately in addition to failing the wellness survey and seek medical attention as appropriate. Your early notification of symptomatic and positive individuals allows us to make the appropriate decisions to keep all of our KIPPsters safe.
