Local philanthropist Harvey Najim has donated $1 million to KIPP Texas -San Antonio, some of which will support the charter network’s efforts to open its second high school in the city.
Being a community leader, I do support public schools and I also support charter schools,” he said Wednesday at KIPP Esperanza Dual Language Academy. He praised KIPP’s graduation rates and efforts to get students to college, as well as its longer school days.
“It means these kids are going to get a better education,” Najim said.
A wing of the Esperanza Dual Language Academy, a bilingual elementary school, was named for Najim, the school announced Wednesday.
