School Impact from Tropical Storm Nicholas

Dear KIPP Texas families,

As many of you read this, the path of Tropical Storm Nicholas continues to impact  the Gulf Coast. This storm, while not directly hovering over Houston, is bringing  heavy rain to the area. To keep our promise of keeping the safety of our KIPPsters  as our utmost priority, our Houston schools closed early today and will be closed  tomorrow. Tomorrow, we will share more information about reopening plans or  the potential for virtual learning for our Houston campuses. Our schools in Dallas,  San Antonio, and Austin will remain open on Tuesday.

Latine Heritage Month

In two days, we begin the celebration of Latine Heritage Month (September 15 – October 15), formerly referred to as LatinX or Hispanic Heritage Month. Our  wonderfully thoughtful Latine affinity group, KIPP Texas Alianza, recently lent their  voice and recommended the adjustment in reference. You can learn more about it here.

This month, our community will acknowledge and celebrate the beautiful cultures,  contributions, and accomplishments of our Latine-American Team & Family  members.

We can’t wait to see all of our KIPPsters in class, smiling and joyful, brightly  evident even behind their masks. Stay safe, KIPPsters!

With gratitude,

Sehba Ali
