Summer Meals and End-of-Year Reminders – Letter from the CEO

Sehba Ali

June 7, 2021

 Dear KIPP Texas Families,

As we continue to recognize and celebrate Pride Month, Immigrant Heritage Month, and the last week of school for our Little KIPPsters, my heart is filled with gratitude this week.

I’m grateful for our Little KIPPsters who have done an incredible job, adapting to so many changes and succeeded despite facing many impediments this year. Learning virtually to start the year, transitioning to in-person learning for some, and having to incorporate all the necessary health and safety protocols has not been easy, but they’ve done it well.

I’m grateful for our teachers who have done an incredible job in virtual and in-person classrooms, supporting our Little KIPPsters’ learning, each other, and continuing to persist through some very challenging times.

I’m grateful for you and your partnership this year. Our Little and Big KIPPsters could not have learned and taught as effectively this year without receiving your support at home. Thank you for your patience, feedback, and support throughout the year.

We have one more week of school left, and I’m grateful that, as a Team & Family, we are finishing well.

Please take a few moments to read the following important updates:

_____________

Masks on Campus – Reminder

Although the Governor’s Executive Order that limits public schools from requiring masks went into effect last week (6/4), for the health and safety of our KIPPsters, Big and Little, we ask that our KIPPsters continue to wear masks through the end of the school year and during all graduations, even outdoor ones. We recommend this practice, alongside our other safety procedures, to keep our Team and Family safe and healthy this year.

FREE Summer Curbside Meals – Starting June 16 to July 9

KIPP Texas remains committed to supporting the health and well-being of our KIPPsters, even during the summer. We are so excited to be able to preview that KIPP Texas will provide a summer meal program, starting on June 16 until July 9! Our website will be updated on June 11 with the updated distribution sites, times, and the following information:

When: Daily, from 9 am until 1 pm, starting on June 16 until July 9.

Who: Anyone in the community who is 18 years of age or younger (up to 21 years of age for individuals with disabilities).

Cost: Meals are FREE! Anyone under the age of 18 will receive a breakfast and lunch package when they come to a curbside meal distribution site.

Where: Locations will be updated on 6/11 on the KIPP Texas Grab & Go Meal webpage.

Chromebook and Charger Return

As we prepare for the end of this semester, we want to remind you that our Chromebooks need a summer break also. Beginning June 9, we will be collecting Chromebooks, MiFi devices and chargers / adapters from students so that our Information Technology department can refresh, clean, repair, or replace them in preparation for the next school year.

You can refer to more details for in-person and virtual student technology collection here or email techcollect@kipptexas.org to arrange a drop off location and time if your student is not able to return their device during the collection period.

I’ve loved seeing all the Pride-related social media posts from our Team & Family! If you are interested in how you can celebrate or learn more about the LGBTQIA+ community or how you can support, take a look at the LGBT Chamber of Commerce websites for each city (Austin, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio) where you can find resources and LGBTQIA-owned businesses you can support.

This is it – the last week of school. I’m so proud of our KIPPsters and thankful for your partnership in helping our KIPPsters learn virtually and in person and persist through the most challenging of times with grace and courage.

With gratitude,

Sehba Ali
