Update on in-person restart and virtual learning

Click here to see our latest post celebrating Latinx Heritage Month.

Dear KIPP Texas Families,

Welcome back to school to those families and KIPPsters who selected in-person learning! We are so excited to have KIPPsters back in our buildings. I’m happy to report that we had a smooth first day of in-person school, while continuing to support our virtual classrooms! Please, if you haven’t already done so, show some love to your teachers who have been working so hard for our KIPPsters. They are so committed to provide a safe, joyful, academically excellent and equitable learning environment for your KIPPsters!!!

I want to take a moment to acknowledge and celebrate that yesterday was Indigenous People’s Day. Because we know words matter, at KIPP Texas, we choose to celebrate the rich cultural history of indigineous nations in the U.S. One way you can contribute is to research and acknowledge whose traditional territory you live on and our school campuses are located on. This website is one resource you can use to start your research and find out how and why the territories have changed hands over the course of history.

Back to School Checklist

If your KIPPster is going back to in-person learning, we’ve put together this handy checklist to help remind you what they have to have with them as they come back. Please click on the image or this link to download it:

We recommend keeping it on your phone or printing it and keeping it somewhere handy so you can refer to it when preparing your KIPPster to go to school.

Grab & Go Meal Update

We have some exciting changes to share! You have spoken and we listened. Based on the KTX Curbside Meal survey results, we have make the following adjustments:

  1. Beginning on Monday, October 19, you can pick up your KIPPster’s meals from 4 to 6 pm in the evening daily at select locations. To find the evening meal pickup locations, visit the Curbside Grab & Go page on our website.
  2. Beginning in October, KIPPsters can now pick up supper, along with breakfast and lunch, at all curbside meal distribution locations. Remember, families can pick up meals at any KIPP campus, not just at the campus their KIPPster attends.
  3. We are excited to announce the opening of an additional curbside pickup location today, at our new KIPP Paseo in Austin and the KIPP Mosaic campus in Houston. Whether your child is learning at home or inside a classroom, we encourage you to participate in our meal program, designed to support good nutrition, and improve health and learning.

Important Grab & Go Meals Dates

Thursday, October 15 – all curbside sites will close early at noon.

Friday, October 16 – all curbside sites will be closed.

All established schools qualify for the Community Eligibility Provision, where meals are free for all enrolled students regardless of eligibility. If your child attends one of our new schools — KIPP Mosaic Primary, KIPP Mosaic Academy, KIPP Paseo Primary, KIPP Paseo Preparatory, or KIPP East End High School — please complete a meal application to qualify for free or reduced meals at:

Voting Update

Early voting begins today and runs through Friday, October 30. Have you made your plan to vote yet? I already have my polling location scouted out and am researching everything that’s going to be on the ballot! Don’t forget to make a plan and encourage your friends and family to do the same. As a reminder, all KIPP Texas schools will dismiss at 12p on November 3 to allow our Team and Family time to go vote.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s)

In an effort to keep these messages as short as possible, we have moved the Frequently Asked Questions to a separate document. You can find them here: Please come back to this document weekly, as we continue to add and update information that is shared in these letters.

I want to close today by thank you for all you’ve done to prepare your KIPPster for in-person learning. Thank you for watching the first day of school video with them ( so they can see what safety and health protocols they can expect; thank you for practicing wearing a mask, not sharing their food or water, maintaining social distance, and all the other protocols found in the Back-to-School Guide ( and at a glance guide (; and thank you for partnering with KIPP Texas so we can have a safe, joyful, academically excellent, and equitable school!

With gratitude,

Sehba Ali
