Welcome to the first day of school

Dear KIPP Texas Families,

The start of a new school year can be so many things–exciting, fun, scary, and it can even bring a little nervousness. Whether you are a returning family or a KIPPster for the first time, we know this year will be different. Your KIPPster won’t be waking up early to board a school bus, get in your car to drive to school, or leave your house with their backpack on to walk to school. Our hallways won’t be filled with the excited buzz that marks the first day of school, and we won’t get to hug and or high five our KIPPsters in person. You have likely made a “first day of school” checklist that looks a little different too–charge your KIPPster’s device, create a quiet, special place for your KIPPster to sit with their computer, make sure they have their headphones, water, and something to write with, and you probably wrote down your child(ren)’s login(s) and password(s) somewhere handy.

Although this school year’s start will be different, here’s what I know will be the same as every other year: KIPP Texas teachers and staff are ready to greet your child with a loving, warm smile and bring joy on the first day of school and every day of the year.

We have spent our summer planning for a strong virtual start to this school year. We anticipate there will be issues and challenges out of your control and ours. We also know that we will find a way together with you. If your KIPPster experiences tech issues with their devices and the Internet this week: it’s ok. If your KIPPster has trouble connecting or accessing a classroom or understanding their schedule this week: it’s ok. If you lose electricity because of the incoming storms this week: it’s ok. Our teachers and office staff are ready to help you and your KIPPster. Please reach out to your school’s front office if you have any questions or visit this website to report any technical issues so we can help.

While none of us have experienced a virtual start to the school year before, I want you to know that our commitment to you and your KIPPsters is unwavering. We hold sacred our partnership with you and our communities to create joyful, academically excellent learning environments so our KIPPsters will be prepared with the skills and confidence they need to pursue the paths they choose –college, career and beyond. We will get through any challenges together so that our KIPPsters can rise together.

Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year! We can’t wait to greet your KIPPster virtually in just a little while.
With gratitude,

Sehba Ali
