Dear KIPP Texas Families,
I was so emotional watching the inauguration yesterday and re-watching it last night side-by-side with my two Brown daughters and my Brown son. I was emotional because representation matters. Seeing a Black and Brown Vice-President being sworn in by the first (but not last) Latina Supreme Court Justice and hearing the incredibly powerful and real words of 22 year old Amanda Gorman, the youngest inaugural poet in US history, gave me such hope. Indeed the future for our Black and Brown children is bright. It is a future filled with possibility, a future of shattering glass ceilings, and a future of building a more just world and better tomorrows. It’s a future where women, people of color, and marginalized communities belong on the biggest stages and in the highest offices of our country.

As Little and Big KIPPsters step into our in-person and virtual classrooms today, we are reminded how privileged we are – because in our classrooms, in our schools – are our future leaders. They will be our next Vice-Presidents, Presidents, singers, entrepreneurs, members of the armed forces, and Supreme Court Justices. We are committed to doing everything we can to deliver on the promises we have made to them. KIPP Texas will do everything we can to teach them the skills and confidence they need to boldly advocate, to lead with courage, to change the world. Thank you for trusting us with your children.
