February is a special month dedicated to honoring and celebrating Black history. At KIPP Texas, we are committed to acknowledging the remarkable contributions of Black artists, leaders, and thinkers who have significantly influenced history. This year, we commemorate the 70th anniversary of Brown vs. the Board of Education, a pivotal moment in the quest for education equity. This groundbreaking Supreme Court decision actively confronted school segregation and established the groundwork for ensuring equal access to education—a core principle that defines KIPP Texas’s mission. Throughout this Black History Month, we will pay tribute to the vibrant world of arts and into the inspiring programs and extracurricular activities that make KIPP Texas unique.

Our students have the opportunity to explore and cultivate their creativity through a variety of arts programs and extracurricular activities. From visual arts to dance, theater, and music, we provide a platform for students to discover and develop their talents.
KIPP Texas offers dance programs that go beyond just learning the moves. We explore the cultural significance of various dance styles, highlighting influential figures like Misty Copeland—a trailblazing ballet dancer and principal with the American Ballet Theatre who captivates audiences with her grace and resilience.
The world of theater is a vibrant space for storytelling and self-expression. KIPP Texas encourages students to take the stage and bring stories to life. As we celebrate Black History Month, we draw inspiration from trailblazers like James Earl Jones, an actor and voice artist who is undeniably leaving a mark on the entertainment world with his powerful performances.
From classical to contemporary, music is a universal language that bridges cultures and generations. Our music programs at KIPP Texas help students explore their musical passions while acknowledging the incredible impact of Black musicians throughout history. We pay homage to pioneers like Beyonce Knowles-Carter, whose contributions have shaped the world of music.
