Dear KIPP Texas Families,
It is hard to believe that April is nearly here. We look forward to rounding out the school year for our Little KIPPsters with celebration and joy!
Last week, we hosted our annual lottery for open seats. We welcomed over 6,000 new little KIPPsters to our Team & Family. Limited seats remain across our network. If you, or someone you know, is interested in applying for a child to attend KIPP Texas during the 2021-22 school year, complete this quick form, and a member of our team will get in touch.
Additionally, The re-enrollment process for rising pre-K4 families will begin on April 1. Current pre-K3 families will receive an email on April 1 with re-enrollment instructions including SchoolMint login details (please do not create a new SchoolMint account). The re-enrollment deadline for rising pre-K4 families is April 30.
Research has shown that students in high-quality early education programs are more likely to be promoted to the next grade level and graduate high school (McCoy et. al, 2017). A study conducted by Mathematica Policy found that “after five years, KIPP pre-K combined with KIPP early elementary had ‘positive statistically significant impacts on reading and math achievement’ (Knechtel et. al, 2017).” As you know, KIPP Texas is a great place for families and students to start their academic journey to college, career, and beyond. We appreciate you continuing to tell your friends and family about KIPP.

Virtual Learning Day on 4/1
Please note that April 1 has been adjusted as a virtual learning day. This means that all Little KIPPsters will participate in virtual learning on this day. KIPPsters will participate in live online sessions facilitated by their teachers in the morning. In the afternoon, KIPPsters will complete independent lessons activities assigned by their teachers. This change to our schedule is so our teachers can have Professional Development sessions in the afternoon.

Please expect to receive more details from your school. Contact your school’s front office if you have any questions.
KIPP Texas Resumes Spring Sports
KIPP Texas believes that participating in athletics can foster profound and positive social and emotional health outcomes in our community. Socializing with friends and coaches, and returning to a more structured routine, can boost a child’s mental health. In addition, sports can provide a template for students to learn concepts of teamwork, leadership, work ethic, and integrity.
We are excited to announce that starting today, students will be able to participate in Spring sports – baseball, softball, track, and cheer, based on school availability. All sports will resume with strict COVID-19 safety protocols for players, coaches, and families including free and optional, twice-a-week COVID testing for all student-athletes.
The health and safety of our athletes, staff, the teams they compete against, and our entire KIPP Texas community, remains a top priority. We are excited to resume sports this season and the for opportunity to provide some sense of normalcy during these uncertain times
Please check with your campus athletic director for more information.
COVID Vaccine Update
As of today, all adult Texans qualify for, and can sign up to receive, the COVID-19 vaccine. KIPP Texas highly encourages our Team & Family to get vaccinated. You can visit the Texas Health and Human Services website for a list of vaccination providers by county. If you have questions about the COVID-19 vaccines, please visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website for more information.
_______
As always, the health and safety of Little and Big KIPPsters continues to be a top priority. Thank you for your partnership in following our Health and Safety protocols and keeping your KIPPsters home when / if they present COVID-19 symptoms. Have a great week!
With gratitude,
Sehba Ali
