KIPP Texas High Schools Ranked Among Top in the Nation

KIPP Texas Public Schools is proud to announce that nine KIPP Texas high schools were ranked among the top high schools in the nation by the Jay Mathews Challenge Index High School Rankings, formerly known as America’s Most Challenging High Schools, published in The Washington Post.

According to the 2023 rankings, the nine KIPP Texas high schools listed are in the top one percent of America’s 22,000 plus high schools.

The Challenge Index is the oldest high school ranking system in the country, beginning in 1998 in both Newsweek and The Washington Post. It is the only list that does not rely on test scores, which are more of a measure of student family income than school quality. It is also the only list that compares private and public schools.

The Challenge Index ranks schools by a simple ratio: the number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, or Cambridge tests given at a school each year, divided by the number of seniors who graduated that year.
