KIPP Texas Families,
Ensuring the safety and well-being of our students, their families, and staff is our highest priority. As a part of this commitment, Texas law requires schools to share important information about firearm safety three times a year with parents and guardians. The information in this letter will help you learn about options for, as well as how to talk to, your child and others about the safe storage of firearms.
Did you know:
- It’s against the law in Texas to leave a gun where kids can easily access it. If a child gets hold of a loaded firearm due to improper storage, the owner of the firearm may face legal consequences.
- Texas doesn’t charge sales taxes when buying firearm safety equipment.
- To ensure safety, always keep firearms unloaded in a secure or locked container and store ammunition separately.
The Texas Department of Public Safety has more helpful information and resources on firearm safety here. As a reminder, firearms are not allowed in any of our KIPP Texas schools or offices.
We appreciate your continued partnership as we aim to make KIPP Texas a safe and joyful space for our students where they can thrive and lead fulfilling lives.
