KIPP Legacy Preparatory School opened its doors to the Northeast Houston community in 2010. KIPP Legacy joins KIPP Voyage, KIPP Polaris and KIPP Northeast College Prep to make up KIPP’s Northeast campus. At KIPP Legacy, we are cultivating the global leaders of tomorrow by helping our students discover their talents, gifts, and role in life. Students who attend KIPP Legacy will be empowered to leave their mark on society and create a new legacy.

Monique Payton

School Leader

I strongly identify with KIPP’s mission of getting students TO and THROUGH college. I believe that through hard work, a focus on academics and character, as well as strong relationships with families and students, our TRAILBLAZERS will graduate from college and become leaders of their community and our world.

Originally from Compton, California, Monique Payton came to Houston as a Founding Kindergarten Teacher at KIPP Legacy Preparatory School in 2010, where she now serves School Leader. During her time at Legacy, she has held positions as teacher, grade-level chair, dean of math and science, and lower school director. She is a Teach for America Corps alumna and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology and Sociology from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) and a Master’s degree in Education Policy from Stanford University.
