Little KIPPsters will be on Winter Break from Monday, December 19 to Wednesday, January 4 and will return to school on Thursday, January 5. Whether you’re traveling or planning to stay home this holiday season, we encourage all our KIPPsters to continue reading and engaging in fun learning opportunities! Check out these fun and simple ways to embrace learning opportunities while you’re on winter break.
Make good use of travel time.
If you’re traveling this holiday season, one way to make the time pass is to get your KIPPster engaged in a fun learning activity. Visit your favorite store for academic workbooks and other printable resources that you can bring along for the ride.
Take a field trip.
While on holiday break you can find time to visit new places and make learning a priority. Visit a local museum, the zoo, aquarium or find a cool way to make a field trip out of an everyday activity like going to the grocery store. Consider having your child help you write a grocery list and letting them help you find the items on the list. You can even research new foods and try cooking them after shopping to take the learning to the next level.
Read whenever possible.
One of your field trips during the holiday break can be to the local library or bookstore where you can spend a few hours exploring different genres of books. Once your KIPPster selects a book, read with them and ask questions about the characters and plot to help them engage further. You can also have them do daily reading from newspapers or magazines.

Use technology to your advantage.
If your child has a tablet or cell phone, you can download educational games for them to play. You can find a number of free game apps through Amazon, Google Play, and Apple’s app store.
Explore new interests.
During the break, there is plenty of time to focus on what interests you and your KIPPster. Try exploring new hobbies or learning a new craft during this time. Another way to give your child an opportunity to appreciate the arts is by attending free events like concerts or plays during the holidays.
Opportunities for learning are everywhere and during winter break, these opportunities can be tailored specifically to your child’s unique interests and needs. Finding activities to strengthen their skills while at home can be very helpful for when they return to school next year.
