Each year, KIPP Texas honors and celebrates the exceptional contributions of our educators by recognizing two distinguished cohorts of teachers on the Teacher Career Pathway (TCP). For the 2024-25 school year, KIPP Texas is proud to honor 16 Distinguished Teachers and 9 Master Teachers—part of an incredible total of 99 Distinguished and Master Teachers across our Austin, Houston, and San Antonio regions.
The KIPP Texas Teacher Career Pathway celebrates individual teacher success and the contributions they make to the school community. It is intended to reward teachers who choose to remain in the classroom to impact students.
What is a Distinguished Teacher?
Distinguished Teachers are strong in almost every area of their teaching practice and exemplary in many areas. Schools count on their Distinguished Teachers as the anchors of subject or grade-level teams, and other teachers in the building look to these teachers as role models. They continue to seek and receive coaching and support to further develop their skills. Distinguished Teachers know their students well and place an emphasis on student character growth to ensure that students find success after they leave KIPP Texas. Distinguished Teachers work closely with families to help their students be successful and consistently keep families updated on their child’s progress.
What is a Master Teacher?
Master Teachers are masters of their craft and consistently have extraordinary results with all students. They articulate a vision for student performance that unequivocally puts students on track to a life of choice and ensures that their student outcomes are consistently exemplary yearly. Master Teachers emphasize student growth and work to ensure that students have the tenacity to succeed after they leave KIPP Texas. They are models for classroom practice with embedded excellence in academic rigor, a culture of joy, deep student engagement, and real character development. They have high expectations and empower students to be leaders in their education and lives. Master Teachers prioritize families as partners in their student’s success and work together on their students’ goals and progress. Through their leadership, they improve the teams they work on and the individuals they work with. Even at this level, they, too, receive coaching and support because they embody a growth mindset and know they can always continue to improve.
Both Distinguished and Master Teachers embody KIPP Texas’s core values, demonstrating what it means to Rise Together and Chase Excellence. They set the bar for what’s possible, inspiring others through their unwavering dedication to student success, character development, and collaborative leadership.
