Health and Safety Update – Governor’s Executive Order on Mask-Wearing

May 18, 2021

Dear KIPP Texas Families,

Earlier today, Governor Abbott issued an executive order that prohibits government entities from issuing mask mandates. This mandate goes into effect June 4. We are currently evaluating the implications of this mandate and will provide an update leading up to June 4.

I know that for some, the thought of removing a key safety strategy that has helped us mitigate the spread of COVID in our schools might be worrisome. I want to reassure you that while KIPP Texas will abide by local, state, and federal laws, we also will continue to prioritize the health and safety of Little and Big KIPPsters in our classrooms and buildings.

For now, please continue to follow all our COVID health and safety strategies, including wearing face coverings. We will provide a full update, including any changes to our health and safety policies, leading up to the implementation of the Governor’s executive order on June 4.

In the meantime, if you would like to contact your state lawmaker to share your thoughts about this executive order, you can find their contact information here. You can also reach the Governor’s office directly using this contact information: https://gov.texas.gov/contact.

With gratitude,

Sehba
