KIPP Texas High Schools Ranked Among Top in the Nation

Four KIPP Texas high schools were ranked among the top high schools in the nation by the Jay Mathews Challenge Index High School Rankings, formerly known as America’s Most Challenging High Schools published in The Washington Post

  • KIPP Austin Collegiate – #1 High School in Austin
  • KIPP Generations Collegiate – Top Five Best High Schools in Houston
  • KIPP Houston High School – Top Ten Best High Schools in Houston
  • KIPP University Prep – Top Five Best High Schools in San Antonio

According to the 2022 rankings, the four KIPP Texas high schools listed are in the top one percent of America’s 22,000 plus high schools.

The Challenge Index is the oldest high school ranking system in the country, beginning in 1998 in both Newsweek and The Washington Post. It is the only list that does not rely on test scores, which are more of a measure of student family income than school quality. It is also the only list that compares private and public schools.

The Challenge Index ranks schools by a simple ratio: the number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, or Cambridge tests given at a school each year, divided by the number of seniors who graduated that year.

Congratulations to KIPP Collegiate, Generations, University Prep, and Houston High school for being ranked the top schools in Texas and among the best in the nation!
