KIPP Texas Public Schools Announces Next Regional Superintendent for San Antonio schools

Guadalupe Diaz is the only female Regional Superintendent in the KIPP Texas network.

March 9, 2023 (San Antonio, TX) – To celebrate the beginning of Women’s History Month, KIPP Texas Public Schools is proud to announce Guadalupe Diaz as the next Regional Superintendent for KIPP Texas-San Antonio.

Diaz will join KIPP Texas with 20+ years in education encompassing community relationships, staff development, student achievement, and school leadership.

She started her journey as a bilingual teacher educating students on the West side of San Antonio. After teaching, she became a campus instructional coordinator and coached and managed PK-8th grade teachers. She then became an assistant principal, coached teachers, and managed all school operations.

Soon, Guadalupe was promoted to principal of IDEA Carver Academy. In three years, she and her team were able to move the entire body of K-5 readers from 26% to 77% reading on and above grade level. She has also led the region’s lowest-performing school to become top-rated, receiving an “A” rated state distinction and the campus of the year. She then accepted the position of Vice President of Schools, achieving great success with the nine schools she managed.

“We are ecstatic to have Guadalupe Diaz join the KIPP Texas Team and Family,” says Sehba Ali, CEO of KIPP Texas Public Schools. “After an extensive national search for the next leader to take KIPP Texas San Antonio forward, we know that is the perfect fit to take KIPP Texas-San Antonio to become “A” rated.”

KIPP Texas-San Antonio has seven tuition-free schools educating more than 3,700 students in the San Antonio region and is part of the KIPP Texas network of more than 59 pre-K-12 schools with 34,000 students across Austin, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, and San Antonio.

In August 2023, KIPP Texas-San Antonio will open two new schools–KIPP Somos Primary and KIPP Somos Collegiate. Located at 8915 Callaghan Road, KIPP Somos Primary will serve students in grades Kinder -1st, and KIPP Somos Collegiate will serve grades 6th-12th. In total, the campus will serve nearly 900 students and grow to become a Kindergarten-12th grade campus in the coming years. The new campus will also be home to two current KIPP Texas-San Antonio schools KIPP Poder Academy and  KIPP Somos High School.
