KIPP Academy West opened in 2015, believing that we build leaders one at a time. We meet our KIPPsters where they are and support them with love on their journey of continuous learning to and through college. We believe in rigorous academics, restorative practices, community circles, and involvement in extracurricular clubs as a foundation for our KIPPsters’ success.

Meet Your School Leader

Andrea McCormick

School Leader

Ms. Andrea McCormick is a proud graduate of Grambling State University and a native of Miami, FL. She is excited to serve as the first black woman successor school leader at KIPP Academy West.

Andrea started her career in education teaching Special Education students in Atlanta, GA. She found her way to KIPP Houston in 2010 as a Founding teammate at KIPP Voyage Academy for Girls. From there, she has served as a teacher, GLC, Dean, and Assistant Principal at KIPP Explore, KIPP Dream, KIPP Change (KIPP NC), and lastly, as a founding leader at KIPP Mosaic Primary.

Andrea is a collaborative leader that leverages strong relationships to ensure our KIPPsters obtain an excellent and equitable education. Andrea expects to bring her love and zest for celebrating SMALL and BIG wins while sharing her passion for literacy and discovering our identities through authentic conversations and cultural celebrations.
