Growth, excellence, innovation, and community are the core values that drive Ms. Young’s work and engagement each day. Her journey as an educator began as a Corps Member for Teach For America, where she taught 8th grade ELA in Charlotte, NC, for three years. As a teacher, Ms. Young worked to bring high-quality and culturally-relevant learning to her students to expand their minds, equip them with the necessary skills to excel in life, and inspire them to be advocates for a more just world. Ms. Young has always displayed a mindset of curiosity and a willingness to learn more to serve her community better. She understands the value and importance of being surrounded by diverse perspectives and experiences. She uses each interaction to inspire her to bring better instruction, resources, and support to her students, staff, parents, and community.
Ms. Young later moved to Houston, TX, where she was able to serve KIPP Nexus for the past five years as the Founding ELA teacher, a RELAY Resident Advisor, Founding Dean of Reading, Assistant Principal, Principal in Residence, and now the School Leader.
Ms. Young is committed to fostering a joyful, rigorous, culturally-relevant, and inclusive school environment for all stakeholders. She prioritizes nurturing all stakeholders while empowering them to reach their full potential each day. Ms. Young pushes herself, her team, and her students to be innovative and critical thinkers.
Ms.Young is committed to XCEL-lence, and she works to ensure that all Bobcats have the very best support, resources, instruction, and communication. Ms. Young believes in the power of community and is committed to creating an environment where all feel united and valued. Ms. Young is excited and humbled to serve her students, teachers, parents, and community each day. Ms. Young has obtained a B.S. in Journalism and Mass Communication from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and a Master’s in Educational Administration from Grand Canyon University.
