KIPP NEXUS is located on the Northwest side of Houston. At NEXUS, joyful learning experiences are at the center of everything that we do through our school values of Nurture, Empower, Xcel, Unite, and Serve. NEXUS students will receive a rigorous and balanced curriculum of math, reading, science, and social studies to build reasoning, analysis, and problem-solving skills. Students will also have technological, musical, and physical education daily to promote creativity and emotional balance. Consisting of two gyms, fields for baseball, football and soccer, and a track, the NEXUS athletic facilities will provide a healthy, active way of life for students, families, and the community. KIPP NEXUS is the central point for all KIPP Houston Public Schools athletic events. We are committed to the academic and character development of every student for success in college and the competitive world beyond.

At KIPP Nexus Middle School, we begin with nurture, we end with service, and at the core of all that we do is XCEL-lence. Our values do not only live in our school's name. Our values also come alive in our daily actions as a community, the quality of instruction we provide to our students, and the development opportunities we create for all stakeholders. Growth, excellence, innovation, and community are the core values that drive Ms. Young’s work and engagement each day. Her journey as an educator began as a Corps Member for Teach For America, where she taught 8th grade ELA in Charlotte, NC, for three years. As a teacher, Ms. Young worked to bring high-quality and culturally-relevant learning to her students to expand their minds, equip them with the necessary skills to excel in life, and inspire them to be advocates for a more just world. Ms. Young has always displayed a mindset of curiosity and a willingness to learn more to serve her community better. She understands the value and importance of being surrounded by diverse perspectives and experiences. She uses each interaction to inspire her to bring better instruction, resources, and support to her students, staff, parents, and community.

Ms. Young later moved to Houston, TX, where she was able to serve KIPP Nexus for the past five years as the Founding ELA teacher, a RELAY Resident Advisor, Founding Dean of Reading, Assistant Principal, Principal in Residence, and now the School Leader.
Ms. Young is committed to fostering a joyful, rigorous, culturally-relevant, and inclusive school environment for all stakeholders. She prioritizes nurturing all stakeholders while empowering them to reach their full potential each day. Ms. Young pushes herself, her team, and her students to be innovative and critical thinkers.

Ms.Young is committed to XCEL-lence, and she works to ensure that all Bobcats have the very best support, resources, instruction, and communication. Ms. Young believes in the power of community and is committed to creating an environment where all feel united and valued.
