6 Things to Know as You Prepare for the 2024-25 School Year

It’s that time of year!  On Monday, August 12, our Little KIPPsters will set foot on KIPP Texas schools again for the first day of the 2024-25 school year! Returning KIPP Texas families, we hope you are excited to come back. New KIPP families, welcome to our Team and Family!  We are excited to partner with you to ensure your child is prepared for college, career, and beyond.

This year, KIPP Texas Public Schools will educate more than 31,000 students in grades Pre-K through 12 in 54  schools in Austin, Dallas- Fort Worth, Houston, and San Antonio!

As you prepare for the new school year in your city, here are four important tips and reminders:

1. Please be patient during drop-off and pick-up:  The first week of school usually produces heavier drop-off and pick-up traffic. We recommend arriving at least 30 minutes before class begins so that KIPPsters can find their classroom before the morning bell. We also recommend allowing extra time to pick up your child once the school day ends.

For safety purposes, all KIPP Texas families are asked to drop off their KIPPster at the drop-off line in front of the school inside the school gates. Directional signage and KIPP Texas staff will be in place to guide this process.

While wait times are longer temporarily during the first week of school, we ask for increased patience, grace, and cooperation from families while adjusting to the routine. Safety is our top priority.

*Some campus schedules may vary. We encourage you to contact your campus to confirm drop-off and breakfast times.

2. Bus riders, please arrive at the bus stop ten minutes early: Beginning the second day of school, students should have their RFID cards ready to scan when boarding and exiting the bus. Use the FirstView Parent App to keep track of your KIPPster’s bus. You can view the bus location, get notified when your bus is near arrival, and receive updates on unexpected delays. Learn more about FirstView on our Transportation webpage.

3. Breakfast and lunch are always free: All enrolled students are provided with free nutritionally balanced meals with the nutrition necessary to fuel academic success while building lifelong healthy habits. The KIPP Texas Child Nutrition Team has adopted the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), which enables eligible schools to serve free breakfast, lunch, and supper (if offered) to all students, regardless of income.

All meals served at KIPP Texas comply with the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) regulations. A variety of options are offered daily. Students will be given all available offerings at breakfast. Visit our Child Nutrition and Wellness webpage for more information and to view your region’s breakfast and lunch menu.

4. Start School Prep Now: Ensure your Little KIPPster has school supplies and uniforms before the first day of school. You can access this important back-to-school information and resources on our Back-To-School website.

Uniform information can be found here. Please note that uniform shirts are changing for our Dallas and San Antonio schools next year.

School supply lists can be found here. If you do not see your campus school supply list on the website, please contact your campus directly for an updated list.

5. All registration documentation, including vaccination records, must be submitted by August 8 for you to start on the first day, August 12. All families must submit updated health records, including up-to-date immunization records, during the registration process every year. All students must be immunized or hold a current, official exemption from the state. According to state law, returning student records need to be updated by the first day of school, or they cannot attend school. There is a 30-day grace period, which is aligned with state requirements for students, and it is a provisional enrollment period for students new to the district.

For more information about KIPP Texas’s immunization requirements, please visit our Health services webpage.

Returning KIPP Texas Families: To complete your annual forms, please visit your SchoolMint account before your first day of school. You can also find the quick and easy steps to complete this process at https://kipptexas.org/newtokipp/.

6. Arrive at school on time. Each day counts:  Being present in school every day is the foundation for student achievement and academic success for all students grades Pre-K through 12th grade.

KIPP Texas students are expected to be at school every day unless they have spoken with their school leader ahead of time and received permission or have had an excused absence. The parent/guardian has to monitor student attendance and make sure the student is in school every day possible. To view the full Attendance Policy, view the Student Handbook
