KIPP Austin Comunidad opened its doors in 2010. Comunidad was chosen as a name because a strong TEAM always beats the impact an individual can make. The Latin root of “community” means “together in deliberate action.” Our school mascot is the honeybee. Honeybees work tirelessly in a highly functioning community (a hive) to produce a nutritious and delicious substance: honey. Like honeybees, our team works tirelessly to create knowledge. Knowledge is power!

Meet Your School Leader
Shakelya Simon proudly serves as a School Leader at KIPP Texas, bringing over four years of dedicated service to the organization. Throughout her time at KIPP, she has held a variety of instructional and leadership roles, demonstrating a consistent commitment to student achievement, staff development, and strong school culture. She holds a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from Lamar University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Sam Houston State University.
Shakelya leads with the belief that every child deserves an excellent education and every educator deserves strong, values-driven leadership. She is passionate about creating joyful, inclusive learning environments where students thrive both academically and personally.
