Sehba Shares: A Message from the CEO

KIPP Texas Families,

I hope this message finds you all in great spirits as we enter the vibrant, and hopefully cooler, season of fall. At KIPP Texas, we are thrilled to celebrate diversity and academic excellence. Here’s a glimpse of what’s happening in our KIPP Texas community and how we are Chasing Excellence as we are On Our Way to A

Hispanic Heritage Month Celebrations

Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations are in full swing! KIPP Paseo Primary KIPPsters celebrated with a culture dress day, and KIPPsters in KIPP University Prep’s IB Spanish class reenacted El Grito de Dolores on Mexican Independence Day. Learning and celebrating the cultures and rich heritage of our Hispanic and Latine communities provides our Little KIPPsters with a well-rounded education that fosters an appreciation for diversity and inclusion and a sense of belonging that is so important for our KIPPsters, Little and Big.

Principals in Residence (PIR)

Last week, for the first time since COVID, we brought together our Principals in Residence (PIR) staff for a two day training. Did you know that 61% of current KTX school leaders came through the Striving School Leaders (SSL) and PIR programs and over 80% of our PIRs go on to be KTX school leaders? These are our future leaders; I am so excited to champion them!

Useful Updates

Although we anticipated receiving our school and district and school A-F ratings this week, The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has delayed the release date until the end of October. Not having accountability results does not hinder our progress or distract our focus. We have set strong organizational goals for the school year and continue to drive towards those.

Additionally, as a member of the Texas Public Charter Schools Association (TPCSA) Board of Directors, I want to update you on what’s to come at the Texas State Capitol. Starting October 2 or 11, we anticipate a Special Session on school finance. TPCSA is focused on advocating for facilities funding for charters and additional public school funding during this special session. I will keep you updated on what the discussions are at the Capitol and what this means to us at KIPP Texas.

Student Applications Open October 1, 2023

Our KIPP Texas student applications for the 2024-25 school year open next week on Sunday, October 1!  Our teams are hard at work getting everything ready for application kick-off. As a reminder, siblings of our current KIPPsters receive priority in our student lottery. If you have more than one school-aged child, we would love for them to join the KIPP Texas family! Login to your existing SchoolMint account to submit the application.

Thank you, KIPP Texas families for your unwavering commitment to our shared mission and KIPP Texas core values. I look forward to witnessing the incredible impact we can make together as your partners in education when we Rise Together to Chase Excellence. Have a great first week of fall.

With Gratitude,

Sehba Ali
