National Charter Schools Week 2021: 30 Years Strong

Join us in celebrating National Charter Schools Week (NCSW) 2021 May 9-15! This year’s celebration marks the 30th anniversary of the nation’s first charter school law, which changed the future of public education and student success forever. That’s three decades of high-quality public schools that put students first! In recognition of the movement’s history and future, this year’s theme is National Charter Schools Week 2021: 30 Years Strong.

Today there are nearly 7,500 charter schools and campuses across the nation and approximately 790 charter school campuses that educate students here in Texas. NCSW celebrates the high quality, tuition-free public charter schools that nearly 3.3 million students across America and 336,900 around Texas depend on for an excellent education.

“We are excited to celebrate 30 years of tremendous success in the charter school sector and the nearly 31,000 students we educate in KIPP Texas,” said Sehba Ali, KIPP Texas Public Schools CEO. “We are humbled by the remarkable work of our passionate and dedicated charter school educators and leaders, in an unprecedented year for education.”

Student-centered and tuition-free charter schools have changed the American public education landscape for the better. NCSW is a time for us to highlight and celebrate the schools, students, education leaders, and advocates that have demonstrated the strength and promise of the charter school movement over the last 30 years.

We are proud to be part of the charter schools community! Join the conversation on our KIPP Texas Facebook and KIPP Texas Instagram pages using the hashtags #CharterSchoolsWeek and #CharterLove to share your memories of the first 30 years of the Charter School movement.
