KIPP Austin Beacon Prep believes that all students, regardless of their economic background and racial identity, can achieve academic success through rigorous instruction and high behavioral expectations. We believe in the importance of building a restorative community to collaborate, problem solve, and ensure the success of all students.
Kristi Michaels is the school leader of KIPP Austin Beacon Prep, a middle school educating fifth through eighth graders. Ms. Michaels graduated from Baldwin Wallace University in 2007 with a B.A. in Political Science and Sociology. She received her principal certification through the KIPP School Leadership Program and the University of Houston Masters of Education program. Ms. Michaels started her teaching career with Teach For America and taught both science and mathematics in the Mississippi Delta. In 2012, she joined KIPP Austin Beacon Prep as a founding science teacher, course leader, and grade-level chair. Following the class of 2020, Ms. Michaels went on to teach and lead both sixth and seventh grade mathematics for the next two years. In 2016, she became the successor leader of KIPP Austin Beacon Prep and has since served as principal for three years. In her free time, she enjoys being with her wife and two dogs, running outside, and playing soccer.
