KIPP Austin “Comunidad” opened its doors in 2010. Comunidad was chosen as a name for our school because a strong TEAM always beats the impact an individual can make. The Latin root of “community” is co*munus which means “together in deliberate action.” This perfectly describes our ideal team. Our school strives to work together intentionally to support all of our students on their climb up the mountain to the college of their choice.

We believe that setting high expectations and working hard every day to meet those expectations for ourselves, our children, and our families is how we will realize our mission of getting 100% of our children to and through college. We believe that this dream takes root in the strong relationships we form and maintain with children, families and staff; our community. At KACD we are intentional about our actions and maintain our commitment to the education of all children. This will indeed positively affect the lives of our children, create a strong community and positively improve our world.

Our school mascot is the honeybee. Honeybees work tirelessly in a highly functioning community (a hive) in order to produce a substance that is nutritious and delicious: honey. Like honeybees, our team works tirelessly as a highly functioning community to produce knowledge. Knowledge is power!
