KIPP Texas Families,
I am constantly in awe of the stories of resilience that I hear about our Little and Big KIPPsters. Just recently, I heard the story of a founding KIPPster at one of our middle and high schools, Anthoni, who is one of our many resilient KIPPsters. He has evolved from one of the KIPPsters who didn’t always prioritize academics or behavior at school into a founding senior who has ambitions of college and becoming an engineer.
Anthoni has taken on the challenge of being a provider to support his mother in caring for his younger siblings. In fact, in addition to school, he juggled two part-time jobs last year to help the family make ends meet during the pandemic. Despite all of these challenges, Anthoni comes to school each and every day with a smile on his face and a positive attitude; with strong friendships amongst his teammates and caring adult mentors on campus, he has created long-lasting tools to help him achieve his dreams.
Anthoni is Persisting with Purpose on his journey to college, career, and beyond, and we are proud he’s part of our Team & Family. I know his story is similar to many of our KIPPsters who work to support themselves and their families while balancing school, a social life, and growing up during a pandemic.
I am so proud of Anthoni and all of our students for Rising Together and supporting each other along the way.
As we trek towards the end of October, I am hearing more and more about the likely FDA approval of the COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5-11 in the coming weeks. As a fellow parent, I understand that this may bring up some questions. So, I invite you to join us on Monday, November 1, at 5:30 pm (English) and 6 pm (Spanish) on Facebook Live to hear from our Director of Student Wellness, Dr. Maria Rivera, as she talks about the COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5-11. She is a phenomenal pediatrician who is ready to share her valuable insights and expertise on the safety of the vaccine for our Little KIPPsters.
