When one of us wins, we all win!

KIPP Texas Families,

When one of us wins, we all win! Today’s resilience story hails from 21 senior KIPPsters from across the state. I am ecstatic to announce that these seniors were just named QuestBridge National College Match Program finalists this year! Our students were selected from an applicant pool of more than 16,500 students.

The QuestBridge programs help outstanding seniors gain admission and full four-year scholarships to the nation’s most selective colleges and universities. If chosen, students will be matched with their university choice on December 1. If a student is matched, they are granted early admission to one of the QuestBridge college partners with a full four-year scholarship.

This year’s KIPP Texas  finalists are from the following schools:

  • KIPP Austin Brave (Austin)
  • KIPP Austin Collegiate (Austin)
  • KIPP Connect High School (Houston)
  • KIPP Houston High School (Houston)
  • KIPP Generations Collegiate (Houston)
  • KIPP Northeast College Preparatory (Houston)
  • KIPP University Prep High School (San Antonio)

These seniors shifted from virtual to in-person learning within the last two years and continued to Chase Excellence in an effort to attend college and seek amazing opportunities. Congratulations to our seniors, and THANK YOU, families, for teaching, caring, and showing our students the power of Persisting with Purpose

COVID-19 Vaccine Updates

KIPP Texas’ #MyShot campaign is officially underway! Check out this short video clip that showcases our excitement to share COVID-19 vaccine resources and vaccine opportunities with our community.

Last Wednesday, the FDA Advisory Board voted unanimously and cleared its first regulatory hurdle of approving the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5-11. This means that we are likely merely days away from an official approval, which will occur if the CDC Director, Dr. Rochelle Walensky, signs off on the recommendations from the FDA. For a list of frequently asked questions about the vaccine for this age group, click here.

Today is our Facebook Live information session at 5:30 pm (English) and 6 pm (Spanish) in which you will hear from pediatrician Dr. Maria Rivera, our Managing Director of Student Wellness, about the vaccine. If you have a question that you would like answered during the session, please submit it here.

As a friendly reminder, tomorrow is Election Day, which is an intentional half-day for both Little and Big KIPPsters so families and staff can go vote if they are able.  One of the ways we Champion Equity is by using your voice, and while a ballot may not be audible, it is one of the most powerful ways we can lend our voice.

I hope you are able to go to the polls to vote, if you are able, and talk to your child(ren) about the power of the ballot.

With gratitude,

Sehba Ali
