KIPP Explore opened its doors to the community in fall 2009. located in the heart of the vibrant East End community. At Explore, we believe that all our students can live by our BRIGHT values for success in school and beyond — Believe, Reach, Imagine, Give, Honor and Trust. KIPP Explore is a school where our innovative staff provides a college-preparatory experience that empowers students with the knowledge, skills, and mindsets to go to and through college.

KIPP Explore educates college-bound students from Pre K3 through fourth grade. Students at Explore come from Houston’s East End community. Our student body is 96% Hispanic and 2% African-American. Explore’s diverse faculty provides a rigorous college-preparatory education with an emphasis on technology and the school’s BRIGHT core values.

KIPP Explore helps students develop their non-academic talents by providing other extra-curricular activities after school, including baseball, soccer, theater and choir.

Mayra Gonzalez

School Leader

Mayra Gonzalez-Moreno started her KIPP Texas journey in the East End Community at KIPP Explore Academy in 2010 as a Kindergarten Teaching Fellow teaching the Class of 2023. Since joining the Explore team, Ms. Gonzalez-Moreno has played multiple roles. From helping lead her Kindergarten team as a grade level chair, BRIGHT values chair, coaching first-year teachers as a relay fellow advisor, dean of instruction, assistant principal, and principal-in-residence. Before joining the KIPP Explore Team and Family, Ms. Gonzalez-Moreno worked in special education for Houston ISD at De Zavala Elementary.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Houston-Downtown and her Master of Arts in Teaching in Elementary Education from Houston RELAY Graduate School of Education. Ms.Gonzalez-Moreno is excited to lead KIPP Explore Academy as the new school leader in the East End Community. She truly enjoys teaching, learning daily, and giving back to the community she calls home.
